Myth's about Myth
So you want to know a bit more about me? Who I am? What makes me tick? Well you've come to the right place!
I have been playing computer games since the 1970's. My first game was an orbital lander program running on a HUGE computer in school - text in and text out. You had to burn fuel to try and make a safe landing, and if you got it wrong the final message was something about leaving orbit forever...
I moved onto a Spectrum 16k, then ZX48k, for which I had a lot of games and hardware, but spent most of my time playing Elite. Right on Commander! I did, finally reach Elite status with my pilot "Trader" and promptly abandomed that nickname in favour of "UrbanMyth" which has stuck (more or less) ever since... I also dabbled with "Lords Of Midnight" - made my own maps for that.
Next computer was an Atari 512 STFM - "Dungeon Master" and "Chaos Strikes Back" were the main games, with CuBase for music. Then I moved onto computers...
I've had LOADS of PCs - starting with a 386 (20mb hard disk and 4mb of ram!) playing "Wing Commander 2", and covering most of the steps between to my current box - an AMD64/3000, with nVidia 6800GT, Soundblaster and 1Gb of ram - and along the way I started to specialise in Valve games, pre-ordering Half-Life, then joining Couter-Strike at Beta 0.6. I also picked up the UrbanMyth nickname that I still favour sometime around 1995.My love of Half-Life (and Counter-Strike) led to me attending and organising LAN games in and around my area (outside Inverness, Scotland) with hundreds of 6-10 people LANs, several 30+ people LANs in Kirkhill, and co-hosting another half dozen LANs in and around Nairn, before joining up with the Aviemore Sulaco crew, and their Wraiths spin off... Don't see the Nairn or Inverness crew about much now - they followed fashion / Quake / Unreal Tournament while we stayed faithful to Valve - well mostly, but even the Sualco crew started to drift away from CS, and Gav, Fuji and I were on the hunt again: Of course latterly we seem to have become Old Farts...
Rampant Rabbit Fight ClubGavac220 was the first to go "rabbit hunting", and quickly signed up as an [OFc] member. I used joined him on the server via XFire and on Teamspeak over several months, and got involved in running their server (I had experience as Hendrix would say). Then Highway realised I wasn't a member, but ran their server, and the rest is history. On RRFC my nick has always been shortened to Myth - partly coz that's what Gav always shouted at the LANs... Of course Gavac220, Fujisawa and I (ex [Wraiths] and [Sulaco] clannies) rarely play on the same team (our play complements each other from Gav's balls over the shoulder rush, Fuji's canny and cunning follow up to my chestnuts roasting on an old scout fire style) but we've found a home again.
Real-life addendum...
I sometimes answer to "Rory" (but always answer to "Myth"), am married to Suzie (very long suffering), and play father to Russell and Lucy (when I remember).
I also have a dog, enjoy five-a-side, fish, play guitar and quite enjoy hillwalking and camping. And for my sins, I also help wit the local Scout group.
